You're likely a good fit if…

You like working with your hands
Hobbies involve tools, engines, repair, building — or you've always wished they did. Office work doesn't fit you and you know it.

You're 18 or older with a valid driver's license
You must be at least 18, hold a valid driver's license, and be authorized to work in the USA. No college degree and no prior experience required.

You can show up on time, every day
Attendance is non-negotiable. Employers hire for reliability first; the program models that from day one.

You're comfortable following safety rules
Shop environments are serious. PPE, focus, and situational awareness keep everyone whole.

You want a paycheck in months, not years
Pre-apprenticeship is a short, structured on-ramp from “no experience” to a first paid role in a trade.

You're a career changer or starting out
Whether you're 19 or 45, the program welcomes you. Mixed-age cohorts learn well together.
This program may not be the right fit if…
You're looking for a part-time hobby class — the public classes catalog is a better place to start.
You need a full wage from day one. Income replacement grants are available to those who qualify, but they are not a full salary — check with the program office before you count on covering all living expenses.
You're looking for a certification you can complete in a few days. This is a multi-week committed training program, not a weekend bootcamp.
You aren't ready to follow shop safety rules. There is no compromise on this point — safety violations end participation.
What the application process looks like

Submit the online application
Your name, contact info, short background, and the track you're interested in (construction or automotive).

We contact you
Candidates are contacted to confirm eligibility and discuss next steps. Space is limited, so apply as soon as possible.

Tour the shop (optional)
Book a free tour of the shop at 2501 Burbank Street to see the equipment and environment before you start.

Start with your cohort
The program is offered multiple times a year and admission is granted year-round.
Specific eligibility requirements (including physical requirements and background-check policies) are disclosed in the application packet for each cohort.
